On August 6, 2026, a former BOP Correctional Officer, previously assigned to the Federal Correctional Institution Herlong (FCI Herlong) in California, pleaded guilty to one count of distribution of methamphetamine in a federal prison. Antonio Ray Ramirez pleaded guilty in the Eastern District of California. According to the factual statement, on or about August 19, 2024, Ramirez knowingly smuggled contraband, namely 869 grams of methamphetamine and 127 grams of heroin, into FCI Herlong. Ramirez smuggled the contraband into FCI Herlong by evading security screening, hiding the drugs in a laundry room, and telling an inmate where to find them. Ramirez received $15,000 in payment for the contraband. The investigation is being conducted by the OIG’s Seattle Locale with assistance from the FBI.
