Former BOP Correctional Officer Arrested for Bribery, Possession of Marijuana with Intent to Distribute, and Money Laundering

On August 12, 2026, a former BOP Correctional Officer was arrested following an indictment by a Federal Grand Jury for bribery, possession of marijuana, and money laundering. Joseph Templeton was indicted in the District of South Carolina. According to the indictment, from on or about August 2025 until December 2025, Templeton accepted monetary bribes to smuggle contraband, including THC wax, into the Federal Correctional Institution in Bennettsville, South Carolina. The investigation is being conducted by the OIG’s Charleston Locale and the FBI.
