Former BOP Contract Food Service Officer Pleaded Guilt to Bribery of a Public Official

On September 29, 2020, a former BOP Food Service Officer previously assigned to the Big Spring Correctional Center (BSCC) in Big Spring, Texas, pleaded guilty to one count of bribery of a public official.  Alex Smith pleaded guilty in the Northern District of Texas.  According to the factual statement in support of the guilty plea, from in or about October 2019 through in or about December 2019, Smith smuggled approximately forty-five cell phones into the BSCC in return for approximately $10,500 in monetary bribes.  The investigation is being conducted by the OIG’s El Paso Area Office.
