Former ATF TFO Found Guilty of Abduction, Ethnic Intimidation and Assault

On March 27, 2026, a former Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) Task Force Officer (TFO) previously assigned to the Detroit Field Office was found guilty of two felony count of attempted abduction, one felony count of ethnic intimidation and one misdemeanor count of assault following a jury trial. Donald Kopchak was found guilty by the Court of Common Pleas for Medina County, Ohio. According to the factual basis in support of the complaint, on April 26, 2024, Kopchak and Daniel Lajack, a DEA TFO, unlawfully restrained a local bar patron. The investigation is being conducted by the Hinkley Police Department and the OIG’s Chicago Office.
