On May 21, 2021, a former ATF Special Agent, previously assigned to the ATF’s Savannah Area Office in Georgia, was sentenced to 12 months of probation and ordered to pay a $2,500 fine for one count of possession of heroin. James Turner was charged in the Southern District of Georgia. According to the factual statement in support of the guilty plea, on or about January 2, 2020, Turner knew that heroin, a Schedule I controlled substance, was in his residence. The investigation is being conducted jointly by OIG’s Atlanta Area Office and the FBI.
