On May 28, 2026, an FBI Supervisory Microbiologist assigned to the FBI Lab in Quantico, Virginia, was Indicted following his previous arrest on May 1, 2026, charging him with one count of distribution of a visual depiction involving the use of a minor engaged in sexually explicit conduct. Cary Rue was indicted in the Eastern District of Virginia on two counts of advertisement of CSAM, and one count each of transportation, distribution, receipt, and possession of CSAM. According to the Indictment, on or about various times from November 2023 to April 2026, Rue advertised, transported, distributed, received, and possessed CSAM. The investigation is being conducted jointly by the OIG’s Washington Office and the FBI’s Fredericksburg Office.
