On March 18, 2022, a BOP Correctional Officer assigned to the Federal Correctional Institution Danbury in Connecticut, who had been on a temporary assignment at the Metropolitan Correctional Center (MCC) New York, was arrested following an Indictment charging him with one count of false statements and one count of obstruction of justice. Greg McKenzie was charged in the Southern District of New York. According to the Indictment, on November 4, 2021, McKenzie participated in a voluntary interview with federal law enforcement agents during which he made materially false statements regarding his purchase of a prepaid cell phone and use of that cell phone to communicate with an inmate, from whose MCC New York prison cell a loaded firearm was recovered, and the inmate’s wife. The Indictment further alleges that McKenzie obstructed the Government’s investigation of the loaded firearm that was recovered from inside MCC New York. The investigation is being conducted by the OIG’s New York Field Office and the FBI.
