BOP Registered Nurse Charged with Simple Assault within the Special Territorial Jurisdiction of the United States

On May 28, 2026, a BOP Registered Nurse assigned to the United States Penitentiary Lee, in Virginia, was arrested following the issuance of a federal information charging him with simple assault within the special territorial jurisdiction of the United States. Spencer Bowman was charged in the Western District of Virginia. According to the information, on or about April 27, 2025, within United States Penitentiary, Lee County, Virginia, a place within the special territorial jurisdiction of the United States, Spencer Bowman assaulted an inmate when he punched the inmate several times without provocation. The investigation is being conducted by the OIG’s Washington Office.
