On January 26, 2023, a BOP Inmate incarcerated at the Federal Correctional Institution Miami (FCI Miami) was sentenced to 37 months of incarceration, to be served consecutively to the sentence he was already serving, followed by 3 years of supervised release for two counts of possession of contraband in prison and one count of possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance. Isabelo Peterson-Lopez was sentenced in the Southern District of Florida. According to the factual statement in support of the guilty plea, on or about June 21, 2022, correctional officers discovered that Peterson-Lopez was in possession of numerous contraband items, including 240 pills that tested positive for fentanyl, and Peterson-Lopez subsequently had several conversations with a caller in which he instructed the caller to send and receive various sums of money to and from prisoners for the sale and purchase of contraband. The investigation is being conducted by the OIG’s Miami Field Office and the FBI.
