On September 25, 2025, Michael Velasquez, an inmate incarcerated at the Federal Correctional Institution (FCI Coleman Medium) in Florida, was sentenced in the Middle District of Florida to 4 months and 23 days (time served). Velasquez previously pleaded guilty to one count of possessing contraband. According to the factual basis in support of the guilty plea, Velasquez obtained two separate contraband cell phones while incarcerated at FCI Coleman Medium. Information on these cell phones indicated that BOP Correctional Officer Karen Torres (see entry above) introduced contraband into FCI Coleman Medium, and that Velasquez arranged for bribery payments to Torres for the introduction of contraband narcotics and cigarettes. The investigation was conducted by the OIG’s Ocala Locale.
