On November 18, 2020, a BOP inmate previously incarcerated at the United States Penitentiary Big Sandy (USP Big Sandy) in Inez, Kentucky, was indicted on one count of bribery and one count introduction of contraband. Librado Navarette was charged in the Eastern District of Kentucky. According to the Indictment, from in or about March 2016 through in or about September 2019, Navarette did, directly and indirectly, corruptly give, offer, and promise monetary bribes to a former BOP Cook Supervisor with intent to induce the Cook Supervisor to introduce contraband or prohibited objects to an inmate of a federal prison. Also according to the Indictment, on or about May 30, 2019, Navarette possessed marijuana while an inmate at USP Big Sandy. The investigation is being conducted by the OIG’s Lexington Domicile Office, the United States Postal Inspections Service, the FBI, and the Georgetown, Kentucky Police Department.
