On January 11, 2021, a BOP Correctional Officer assigned to the Federal Detention Center in Honolulu, Hawaii (FDC Honolulu) was sentenced to six months of imprisonment followed by two years of supervised release and ordered to pay a $7,000 fine for one count of accepting a bribe as a public official. Outhonthip Jenks was sentenced in the District of Hawaii. According to the factual statement in support of the guilty plea, from in or about April 2018 through in or about May 2018, Jenks introduced a cellular telephone, food, shoes, clothing, pain pills “like Tylenol,” and other items into FDC Honolulu, provided the contraband to an inmate, and received $3,500 from an associate of the inmate in return. Jenks also admitted to disregarding security protocols for inmates by avoiding rounds, leaving a secure room unlocked, allowing an inmate to enter the room unsupervised, and allowing an inmate to bring materials in and out of the secure room without “shakedowns.” The investigation was conducted by the OIG’s San Diego Domicile Office and the FBI, with forensic assistance provided by the OIG’s Cyber Investigations Office.
