The Department of Justice Office of the Inspector General (OIG) announced today that a partially declassified version of its report, “A Review of the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Activities Under Section 702 of the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act Amendments Act of 2008,” which was previously classified in its entirety, was released on Friday in response to Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) litigation brought by The New York Times in the Southern District of New York. The report was issued and delivered to the relevant Congressional oversight and intelligence committees, as well as leadership offices, in September 2012, but because it was classified in its entirety, its contents could not be disclosed to the public at that time. The partially declassified version of the report, which contains information that has been declassified and unredacted by agencies with the authority to do so, can be found on the OIG’s website at: http://www.justice.gov/oig/reports/2015/o1501.pdf.
