CIGIE Members Re-Elect the Honorable Michael E. Horowitz as Chair
Allison C. Lerner Re-Appointed as Vice-Chair
The 74 Inspectors General Members of the Council of the Inspectors General on Integrity and Efficiency (CIGIE) last month re-elected the Honorable Michael E. Horowitz, Inspector General of the Department of Justice, to his third term as Chair. Mr. Horowitz subsequently re-appointed Allison C. Lerner, Inspector General of the National Science Foundation, to her third term as CIGIE’s Vice-Chair. Mr. Horowitz and Ms. Lerner will begin their new, two-year terms on January 1, 2019. They will continue to serve as Inspectors General at their respective agencies.
Mr. Horowitz, who has served as CIGIE’s Chair since 2015, was sworn in as the Inspector General of the Department of Justice on April 16, 2012, following his confirmation by the U.S. Senate. Mr. Horowitz was previously confirmed by the Senate in 2003 to serve a six-year term as a Commissioner on the U.S. Sentencing Commission. Ms. Lerner, who has served as CIGIE’s Vice-Chair since 2015, was appointed the Inspector General of the National Science Foundation in April 2009. Prior to her service as NSF IG, Ms. Lerner served in a variety of positions at the Department of Commerce IG, including as Counsel to the Inspector General.
