Jury Convicts Former Tallahassee Federal Correctional Officer of Sexual Abuse of an Inmate

On December 16, 2021, a BOP Recreation Specialist assigned to the Federal Correctional Institution Tallahassee (FCI Tallahassee) in Florida was found guilty after a two-day trial by jury of knowingly engaging or attempting to engage in sexual acts with a female inmate.  Jimmy Lee Highsmith was convicted in the Northern District of Florida.  According to the evidence presented at trial, from on or about March 1, 2014, through on or about April 30, 2014, Highsmith knowingly engaged in a sexual act with an inmate who was in official detention and under his custodial, supervisory, and disciplinary authority.  The investigation is being conducted by the OIG’s Miami Field Office.
