Former Tallahassee Federal Correctional Officer Sentenced to Forty-Eight Months in Federal Prison for Sexual Abuse of Inmate

On March 9, 2022, a BOP Recreation Specialist assigned to the Federal Correctional Institution Tallahassee (FCI Tallahassee) in Florida was sentenced to 48 months of imprisonment and 5 years of supervised release for one count of engaging in sexual acts with an inmate.  Jimmy Lee Highsmith was sentenced in the Northern District of Florida.  According to the evidence presented at trial, from on or about March 1, 2014, through on or about April 30, 2014, Highsmith knowingly engaged in sexual acts with a female inmate who was in official detention and under his custodial, supervisory, and disciplinary authority.  The investigation is being conducted by the OIG’s Miami Field Office.
