On March 4, 2022, a former BOP Correctional Officer assigned to the Federal Medical Center in Lexington, Kentucky, pleaded guilty to one count of deprivation of rights under color of law and three counts of sexual abuse of a ward. Christopher Goodwin pleaded guilty in the Eastern District of Kentucky. The Court provisionally accepted the guilty plea, which Goodwin may withdraw at sentencing if the Court does not accept the sentence agreed upon by the prosecution and defense. According to the factual statement in support of the binding plea agreement, from in or about April 2019 through in or about September 2019, Goodwin engaged in multiple sexual acts with four inmates who were under his custody, supervision, and disciplinary authority, and on at least one occasion, Goodwin caused an inmate to have sexual intercourse with him without her consent, which caused her physical pain resulting in bodily injury. The investigation is being conducted by the OIG’s Lexington Domicile Office and the FBI, with assistance from the Veterans Affairs Police.
