On June 10, 2022, a former BOP Correctional Officer assigned to the Federal Medical Center in Lexington, Kentucky, was sentenced to 135 months of incarceration and 5 years of supervised release for one count of deprivation of rights under color of law and three counts of sexual abuse of a ward. The issue of restitution will be addressed at a hearing on August 15, 2022. Christopher Goodwin was sentenced in the Eastern District of Kentucky. According to the factual statement in support of the guilty plea, from in or about April 2019 through in or about September 2019, Goodwin engaged in multiple sexual acts with four inmates who were under his custody, supervision, and disciplinary authority, and on at least one occasion, Goodwin caused an inmate to have sexual intercourse with him without her consent, which caused her physical pain resulting in bodily injury. The investigation was conducted by the OIG’s Lexington Domicile Office and the FBI, with assistance by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Police Services.
