On December 1, 2022, a former BOP Correctional Officer previously assigned to the Federal Correctional Complex Petersburg (FCC Petersburg) in Hopewell, Virginia, pleaded guilty to one count of solicitation and acceptance of a bribe by a public official. KeShawn Palmer pleaded guilty in the Eastern District of Virginia. According to the factual statement in support of the guilty plea, on or about December 24, 2018, Palmer accepted $1,000 sent to him via Western Union wire transfers in return for facilitating the introduction and distribution of contraband, including, but not limited to, Suboxone, cigarettes, and a cell phone, into FCC Petersburg. As part of his plea agreement, Palmer agreed to forfeit $10,000 in proceeds. The investigation is being conducted by the OIG’s Washington Field Office.
