On August 5, 2020, a former BOP Correctional Officer previously assigned to the Federal Correctional Institution Texarkana (FCI Texarkana) in Texas was arrested and pleaded guilty to a July 9, 2020, Information charging him with one count of conspiracy to commit bribery. James Thompson was charged in the Eastern District of Texas. Thompson pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to commit bribery during his initial appearance. According to the factual statement in support of the guilty plea, from in or about August 2019 through in or about January 2020, Thompson conspired with a federal inmate and others to receive a bribe as a public official in exchange for smuggling contraband into the FCI Texarkana. The investigation is being conducted by the OIG’s Dallas Field Office and the United States Postal Inspection Service’s Fort Worth Field Office.
