On March 10, 2022, a former USMS Contract Correctional Officer and nurse assigned to the Leavenworth Detention Center (Leavenworth) in Kansas pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to introduce contraband into a prison. Jeane Arnette pleaded guilty in the District of Kansas. According to the factual statement in support of the guilty plea, from in or about July 2021 through in or about September 2021, Arnette used her position at Leavenworth to conspire with others to smuggle contraband, including cellular phones, tobacco, food, and papers, into the facility. Further, according to the factual statement, Arnette used a Cash App account to send and receive payments at the request of an inmate. The investigation is being conducted by the OIG’s Chicago Field Office and the FBI.
On May 17, 2022, a former USMS Contract Correctional Officer previously assigned to the Leavenworth Detention Center (Leavenworth) in Kansas, was sentenced to 20 months of imprisonment and 2 years of supervised release for one count conspiracy to commit bribery and introduce contraband into a prison. Cheyonte Harris was sentenced in the District of Kansas. According to the factual statement in support of the guilty plea, from in about January 2020 through in or about May 2021, Harris used her position at Leavenworth to conspire with others to receive at least $8,565 in exchange for smuggling contraband, including tobacco, into the facility on at least 20 occasions. The investigation was conducted by the OIG’s Chicago Field Office and the FBI.
