Department of Justice (DOJ) Inspector General Michael E. Horowitz announced today the release of an update to the Office of the Inspector General’s (OIG) collection of interactive dashboards relating to COVID-19 in Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP) facilities. The update includes new data on COVID-19 inmate vaccination trends in BOP-managed correctional facilities. This data spans from August 4, 2021, to August 10, 2022 and will be updated each week.
The new dashboard features DOJ OIG’s estimates of inmate COVID-19 vaccination percentages across BOP and BOP-managed institutions, based on inmate vaccination data the DOJ OIG receives from BOP. The OIG presents these calculations as estimates due to the dynamic inmate population and the continuous transferring of inmates among BOP-managed institutions. The data available on the dashboard and for download includes estimates of the aggregate COVID-19 inmate vaccination percentage across all BOP-managed correctional facilities and estimates of inmate COVID-19 vaccination percentages over time by facility for BOP-managed facilities.
The collection of dashboards also includes data on COVID-19 case trends, testing trends, and deaths due to COVID-19 in BOP-managed correctional facilities. We are making this data available to provide further transparency about COVID-19 in BOP-managed correctional facilities.
