The Pathways Intern Program at the DOJ OIG is a paid internship program that gives currently enrolled college and graduate students the opportunity to gain federal government experience while in school. Students who successfully complete the Pathways program may be eligible for conversion to a permanent job in the civil service.

The Pathways Intern Program is open to currently enrolled students in good standing with a 3.0 or higher in accredited:
- College (including 4-year colleges or universities, community colleges, and junior colleges)
- Professional, technical, vocational, and trade school
- Advanced degree programs
- Other qualifying educational institution pursuing a qualifying degree or certificate
Pathways Student Interns are critical to the operations of the DOJ OIG. Student Interns are integrated into teams and perform important tasks and functions. For example:
- General Administrative & Office Support Interns identify needed data and resources and coordinate activities in support of program operations, research and investigate new and improved business and management practices, and perform other administrative assignments.
- Policy Analyst Interns and Accounting & Budget Interns actively participate in reviews of DOJ programs to assess compliance with applicable laws, regulations, policies, and procedures.
- Communications Interns brainstorm, pitch, strategize, and create a variety of communications products including emails, newsletters, photos, videos, interactive web content, and other digital media.
- Information Technology Interns work in a variety of areas such as Customer Service, IT Software Applications, IT Engineering, and IT Security. Interns design, develop, customize, and implement a wide range of hardware and software to support large scale projects, use a variety of Cybersecurity monitoring tools to address security vulnerabilities, and provide help desk support.

Hiring official reviews applications and makes selection. The Office of Human Resources extends a tentative offer of employment to the selected candidate. The Office of Security Programs conducts a background review and initiates a clearance review for the selected candidate. The Office of Human Resources extends a confirmed offer of employment to the selected candidate.

Does DOJ OIG offer paid intern opportunities?
Yes! All internships are paid and are full- or part-time work schedules.
I’m in school, will the OIG work with my class schedule?
Yes! Your supervisor will work with your schedule to accommodate school courses and schedules. Interns must work a minimum of 40 hours every two weeks during their time at the OIG.
Will my work be relevant to my field?
Yes! Intern positions are developed to provide valuable, hands on experience relating to the intern’s course of study.
