APPENDIX III: OFFICE OF THE INSPECTOR GENERAL'S ANALYSIS
OF MANAGEMENT'S RESPONSE

On November 3, 1999, the Inspections Division sent copies of the draft report to USMS with a request for written comments. USMS responded by memorandum from the Director dated December 17, 1999 (APPENDIX II).

Recommendation 1 - Resolved - Open.

The OIG agrees with the USMS plan to change the goal relating to closing warrants within one year to 85 percent. Please provide documentation of this new goal.

Recommendation 2 - Resolved - Open.

The OIG agrees with the plan for the USMS to establish a quantifiable goal for apprehending violent fugitives by January 1, 2000. To close the recommendation, we will need a copy of the proposed quantifiable goal established.

Recommendation 3 - Resolved - Open.

The OIG agrees that developing a new goal based on offender categories (in lieu of the QPI system) satisfies our recommendation. Please provide documentation of the goal.
