RE: REVIEW OF THE VIOLENT CRIME TASK FORCES OF THE UNITED STATES ATTORNEY'S OFFICE FOR THE SOUTHERN DISTRICT OF NEW YORK, REPORT A-98-19.
Dear Mrs. Demory:
In your letter dated November 3, 1999, you requested that the FBI review a draft copy of the final report regarding referenced report. Recipients of the report, including the FBI, were asked to indicate whether they agreed or disagreed with the recommended actions, and to provide information on the implementation of the recommendations.
The FBI agrees with the factual information set out in the report. Since the report contains neither findings critical of FBI investigative activities nor recommendations for action by the FBI, we cannot comment on implementation of the planned actions. It should be noted that most FBI violent crime task forces are funded directly by the FBI rather than United States Attorneys Office money. Further, the FBI understands that in those districts in which the task forces were funded through money under the control of the Executive Office of the United States Attorney, a property custodian and an activities monitor were in place from the outset.
