Grants to the City of Wilmington, Delaware Department of Police

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

 

The Office of the Inspector General, Audit Division, has completed an audit of two grants awarded by the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ), Office of Community Oriented Policing Services (COPS), to the City of Wilmington, Delaware, Department of Police (Wilmington Police). The Wilmington Police received a grant of $977,060 to hire or rehire 13 additional sworn police officers under the Phase I program, and $302,681 to redeploy 9 officers under the Making Officer Redeployment Effective (MORE) program. The purpose for the additional officers and redeployment is to enhance community policing efforts.
