Inspection of the Influx of New Personnel
Report Number 1-2000-018
U.S. Department of Justice Office of the Inspector General June 1, 2000 |
MEMORANDUM FOR: | Doris Meissner Commissioner Immigration and Naturalization Service |
SUBJECT: | Follow-up Inspection of the Influx of New Personnel Report Number 1-2000-018 |
FROM: | Mary W. Demory Assistant Inspector General for Inspections |
We have completed a follow-up inspection to our October 1995 report, In flux of New Personnel in the Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS), 1-96-01. While INS has made much progress since our original inspection, some areas still need improvements. Because there are no formal recommendations, only suggestions for improvement, the report is being issued in final. We did, however, meet with senior INS Headquarters and Border Patrol officials to discuss our draft findings and to provide them an opportunity to clarify or provide additional information.
As a matter of Office of the Inspector General (OIG) policy, final inspection reports are considered public records and will be included on the Department of Justice, OIG website. However, prior to making this information available on the Internet, we ask that you review the report and advise us within 30 days of this memorandum of any concerns you have relative to proprietary, confidential, or personal information that should not be released to the general public pursuant to the Freedom of Information Act, the Trade Secrets Act, or any other applicable law or policy.
We want to thank the INS staff involved during this inspection for their assistance and cooperation. If you have any suggestions how we might improve our review process, or if we can provide you with additional information, I am available to meet with you at your convenience or I can be reached on (202) 616-4620.
