USMS Inmate Pleaded Guilty to Attempting to Obtain Contraband as an Inmate of a Prison and Conspiracy


On May 13, 2021, a USMS inmate assigned to the Sandoval County Detention Center in New Mexico pleaded guilty to one count of attempting to obtain contraband as an inmate of a prison and one count of conspiracy.  Ismael Vargas pleaded guilty in the District of New Mexico.  According to the factual statement in support of the guilty plea, from on or about November 2, 2017, through on or about November 5, 2017, Vargas knowingly and voluntarily conspired with others  to obtain and distribute suboxone, which contained the controlled substance buprenorphine.  The investigation is being conducted by the OIG’s El Paso Area Office.
