On August 3, 2023, a former U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Officer previously assigned to Laredo, Texas, was sentenced to 3 years of probation, a $1,500 fine, and 150 hours of community service for one count of making a false, fictitious or fraudulent statement related to granting a Mexican National unlawful entry into the United States. Rhonda Walker was sentenced in the Southern District of Texas. According to the factual statement in support of the guilty plea, on February 12, 2021, Walker made false statements to CPB Office of Professional Responsibility Special Agents when she lied about her relationship to a Mexican National who was serving as her live-in housekeeper and nanny, and falsely denied processing the Mexican National’s entry into the United States on January 2, 2021. The investigation is being conducted by the OIG’s Houston Area Office and the U.S. CBP Office of Professional Responsibility; forensic assistance was provided by the OIG’s Cyber Investigations Office.
