On May 18, 2026, a former BOP Correctional Officer previously assigned to the Federal Detention Center (FDC Philadelphia), in Pennsylvania, was sentenced to 360 months confinement and ten years supervised release for three counts of sexual abuse of an inmate under his supervision and one count of deprivation of rights under the color of law. Michael Jefferson pleaded guilty in the Eastern District of Pennsylvania. According to the factual statement in support of his guilty plea, on or about July 6, 2024, Jefferson engaged in a sexual act with an inmate of FDC Philadelphia. The investigation is being conducted by the OIG’s Trenton Office with assistance from the FBI Laboratory.
