Former BOP Correctional Officer Pleaded Guilty to Conspiracy to Bribe a Public Official and Provide Contraband to Federal Inmates and Solicitation and Acceptance of a Bribe by a Public Official

On November 16, 2022, a former BOP Correctional Officer assigned to the Federal Correctional Complex Petersburg (FCC Petersburg) in Hopewell, Virginia, pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to bribe a public official and provide contraband to federal inmates and one count of solicitation and acceptance of a bribe by a public official.  Charles Dontaye Marks pleaded guilty in the Eastern District of Virginia.  According to the factual statement in support of the guilty plea, from in or about June 2019 through on or about August 6, 2020, Marks, along with others, conspired to introduce contraband, specifically tobacco, cell phones, chargers, earphones, creatine pills, Suboxone, and synthetic marijuana, into FCC Petersburg in exchange for monetary payments.  The investigation is being conducted by the OIG’s Washington Field Office and the FBI’s Richmond Office.
