EOIR Legal Administrative Specialist Arrested and Charged with Theft of Public Money

On December 3, 2020, a Legal Administrative Specialist assigned to EOIR in Elizabeth, New Jersey, who was previously a Legal Assistant assigned to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of New York (USAO EDNY) in Brooklyn, New York, was arrested following a Criminal Complaint charging her with one count of theft of public money.  Crystal Brown was charged in the Eastern District of New York.  According to the Criminal Complaint, from in or about January 2019 through in or about July 2019, Brown fraudulently obtained approximately $11,700 in federally funded unemployment benefits to which she was not entitled while employed at USAO EDNY.  The investigation is being conducted by the OIG’s Boston Area Office and the U.S. DOL OIG New York Regional Office.
