BOP Correctional Officer Sentenced for Deprivation of Rights Under Color of Law and Using a Firearm in Relation to a Crime of Violence

On June 30, 2026, a former BOP Correctional Officer formerly assigned to the Metropolitan Detention Center Brooklyn (MDC Brooklyn) in New York, was sentenced to 200 months imprisonment with three years of supervised release and a special assessment of $200. Leon Wilson was sentenced in the Eastern District of New York. According to the evidence presented at trial, Wilson, while acting under the color of law as a BOP Correctional Officer, pursued a vehicle that had trespassed on MDC Brooklyn property for more than a mile beyond BOP property before brandishing a firearm and discharging several rounds into the rear of the pursued vehicle, striking a passenger seated in the back seat without provocation and with no lawful justification to use deadly force, and failed to report the incident. The investigation was conducted by the OIG’s New York City Office.
