On April 3, 2024, a former BOP Correctional Officer previously assigned to the Federal Correctional Institution Florence (FCI Florence) in Colorado was sentenced to 12 months and one day of imprisonment, two years of supervised release, and a $100 special assessment, as well as ordered to forfeit $35,000, for one count of bribery of public officials and witnesses. Gage Zupancic was sentenced in the District of Colorado. According to the factual statement in support of the guilty plea, from on or about July 9, 2021, through on or about April 28, 2022, Zupancic received electronic payments from multiple individuals directed by certain inmates at the FCI Florence, in exchange for the smuggling of contraband tobacco into the facility for the inmates. The investigation was conducted by the OIG’s Denver Office.
